about

Written a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. Partly inspired by one of my favourite books - "The Outsider" by Colin Wilson. I believe I was living in Guelph when most of this was written and dealing with some nasty things in my head concerning free-will and other silly topics. Take it as you will, if you feel you have a choice.

lyrics

Idle observers on caffeine binges

they sit in drab cafes and sigh

While fading Claude Monet replicas

sulk on the walls

And flip off the passersby

I know that I am an imitator

But that doesn't mean that I don't try

The observers run off to the wilderness

And so few care to question why

Now there are happy ghosts

and there are sad ghosts
And they both play tricks on you in the night
You'll be walking, thinking you're all alone
And then one of them will flick off a street light

And it's alright
Your misery's not in vain
Your misery's not in vain son
Your misery's not in vain

And there's room for so much more
Behind the ole' cerebral door
Dear youngin

We peacefully, practically, tastefully, tactfully, cleverly, joyfully, carefully fall into line.

We listlessly, hopelessly, carelessly, heartlessly, thoughtlessly, gracelessly, quietly do not mind

We know that we are all imitators

But that doesn't mean that we don't try

We court and acquire a mate of our choice

Spawn offspring and wrap it up with a tall glass of wine

No!

there are warning signs and there are vital signs

The biggest movement in mankind

regards our own frailty
So live in the image of heroes and idols
Respect from your peers - try to transcend mortality

And it's alright
Your efforts are not in vain
Your efforts are not in vain sir
Your efforts are not in vain

And when relics cut you down
Accost them with a sound
Start, “Dear drifters”

Align all instances of embracing dreams

Unite them through Pundit defiance to kiss truth goodbye

Then voluntarily lie in a river of lies

Under manicured, pampered,

Pathetic excuses for skies

You don't know/care that you are an imitator

So accept life without ever questioning why

Gaze at the addicts - a morning commute

And when you're sipping your drug shake your head and think

“Oh my to the power of five”

Drunk with conviction or sobered by doubts

I dutifully nurtured ideas of independence

about

Alex Grantham Toronto, Ontario

Every last thing has to go.

Drawing equally on the lyrical density of 60s Dylan, the anti-establishment libertarian sentiments of punk-rock and the experimental leanings of a Jeff Tweedy or Scott Walker, Al Grantham weaves a unique tapestry of music and words. ... more
