about

The original title of this song was "Disguise And Fall Into Arms", but I was reading Ayn Rand's "The Foutainhead" at the time and I decided to change the title. The rest of the song stayed the same. When I sing it live I say "Undress" instead of "Dis-guise".

lyrics

When your goals are all annulled
Only then will you amply fall
Upon the bed that the weathered share
It's kept unmade
Try to make it if you dare

Other than the kettle
And a well stirred song
When you awake
Don't put anything on

What's your role in the circus?
Are you beloved by the throng?
Do you feel that it matters?
Do you need to feel strong?

Dis-guise
And fall into arms
You were completed
The day you were born
Dis-guise
And fall into arms

Remove your face!

When the kettle comes to a boil
Visit the grave of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
State your case, State you'll take it unsolved
Mock his moustache if he questions your resolve

Other than the stonework
And the humour of a name
Behind the gates of the graveyard
Every body is the same

What's your role in the circus?
Are you ahead in the game?
Do you feel that it matters?
Do you understand your aim?

Dis-guise
And fall into arms
You were completed
The day you were born
Dis-guise
And fall into arms

Remove your face!

Have you heard of T.J.?
Who spoke out for the slaves?
Who's shoes were polished?
As he'd toiled to save the day?
When the creditors came
looking for their pay
He threw a yardsale
With a human flesh display

And all the good folk came!

It's true the bed gets hard and full
There is temptation in glory's pull
Don't mistake you can rest elsewhere
Just be conscience of the guise that you wear

Other than the kettle
And a well-stirred song
When you awake
Don't put anything on

What's your role in the circus?
Are you beloved by the mob?
Do you feel that it matters?
Do you ever feel wrong?

Dis-guise
And fall into arms
Your duty's finished
The day they are born
Dis-guise
and fall into arms

Remove your face!

Alex Grantham Toronto, Ontario

Every last thing has to go.

Drawing equally on the lyrical density of 60s Dylan, the anti-establishment libertarian sentiments of punk-rock and the experimental leanings of a Jeff Tweedy or Scott Walker, Al Grantham weaves a unique tapestry of music and words. ... more
